International Power Provides Update on Rugeley Plant Outage
(London – 22 August 2008) Following the announcement dated 14 August 2008, International Power today provides an update on the Rugeley plant outage. Investigations to date indicate that both units at Rugeley have been impacted by a similar technical issue relating to the introduction of new equipment designed to improve the performance of the plant.
Remedial work on both units is underway with Unit 6 expected to return to service in early October and Unit 7, as previously announced, in late September. The estimated financial impact of the extended outage at Unit 7 (and the FGD tie-in delay) remains unchanged at £45 million and at Unit 6, which suffered less consequential damage, it is expected to be approximately £25 million. The financial impact of both outages is estimated before taking into account any recovery under Rugeley's insurance policy.
